The Jewish Museum will present its annual Hanukkah Family Day, a fun-filled day of activities, on Sunday, December 14 from 12 noon to 4 pm. Kids can construct a sculptural Hanukkah menorah with funky found objects, dance to the music of Shirlala, see the Hanukkah story brought to life through a drawing performance with Jeff Hopkins, and explore the Museum’s world-famous collection of Hanukkah lamps.
Then wonder no more! Why have it sitting on your stoop, or in your home rotting after Halloween is over. Why not make an event of it, and have the best time smashing it up!
Once they are smashed, they are then composted - what's not to love!

Annual Registration Effort for New or Re-entering Students Runs August 27 - September 12
The New York City Department of Education has opened ten temporary Registration Centers across the five boroughs to make it easy for new students to enroll in school, and assist families who may have enrollment questions. The ten sites - an increase from nine locations last year - include a new location at PS/IS 218 in the Bronx to help ensure that local community needs are met. For the first time, the Department has specially trained staff at each site to help families looking to enroll their child in pre-K. The Department also added more interpreters than in past years to help ensure that families are able to access the information and services they need in a variety of languages.
Old Navy worked with Tony-nominated songwriters Benji Pasek & Justin Paul (A Christmas Story, The Musical; James and the Giant Peach, The Musical; and NBC's Smash) to create a song that captures the combination of butterflies and hopefulness that accompany the first day of school. Starring new talent Isabella Baldi, the video depicts her first day back at school through a musical journey that juxtaposes her dreams and self-doubt. The single titled “Unlimited,” which was released on July 31st, encourages kids to reach for their dreams and unlimited potential.
Two giant Aldabra tortoises (Geochelone gigantean) are now grazing outside Zoo Center at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo.
Both tortoises are males; one weighs approximately 400 pounds and the other tips the scales at around 600 pounds.
