NYC Parks maintains 14 miles of beaches, all of which are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. During beach season, lifeguards are on duty daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections. Closed sections are marked with signs and/or red flags.

Fleet Week New York, now in its 26th year, is the city’s time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services. The week-long celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984. It is anticipated that nearly 1,500 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate.
The Trust for Governors Island (The Trust) has announced its 2014 public season. Visitors to Governors Island will enjoy 30 new acres of extraordinary park that open for the first time. Additionally this season, visitors will enjoy more arts, cultural, recreational and educational programs than ever before. Governors Island opens to the public on Saturday, May 24 and will be open every day through September 28.

City Parks Foundation has announced the SummerStage 2014 program. With so many things going on, we have highlighted below the family events - they are all FREE. SummerStage Kids events celebrate a day dedicated to engaging young audiences and their families through thrilling performances!
On May 10, 2014, Socrates Sculpture Park will launch a free summer shuttle bus service to promote and connect Long Island City’s cultural institutions, while linking the Western Queens waterfront to a major transit hub at Court Square.
The LIC Art Bus will be free of charge.
