The property

Located in New York’s vibrant Flatiron District, The École is an intimate and independent French-American school that cultivates an internationally-minded community of students.

At The École, the goal of education is to develop well-informed, well-rounded, responsible and compassionate students who can create and connect to a world filled with possibilities. This belief is at the heart of The École’s uniquely-designed bilingual program, in which students learn to not just speak, read, and write in two languages, but also to think, feel, and act in ways that are informed by two cultures. To always see, explore, and understand the world around them from two perspectives is the gift of the deeply bi-literate student.

Artfully blending the curriculum requirements and pedagogical approaches of the French and American systems, The École’s faculty creates rich academic environments for a diverse, international student body. From Maternelle through Middle School, students at The École are guided through the core language arts, social studies, math, and sciences content in both French and English. The École’s teachers provide bilingual learning opportunities that engage, challenge, and inspire.

The École Welcomes Pre-Nursery Students
The École’s unique French-American program is open to children aged 2 and up. The Pre-Nursery class is the first year of The École’s pre-school Maternelle. The École’s approach to learning, combining the scholastic depth of the French system and play-based projects characteristic of American early childhood education, is carefully adapted to our Pre-Nursery students to ensure a nurturing classroom environment that eases the transition to school life for the children and their parents, all the while encouraging two-year-olds to develop their inquisitiveness and independence! In keeping with The École’s desire to remain human-sized, there is a cap of 12 students in the Pre-Nursery class. Two experienced and certified teachers—one native English speaker and one native French speaker—along with a dedicated daycare assistant create an atmosphere of discovery and delight for their Pre-Nursery students and prepare them for a bright future of bilingual learning at The École.

The École with Léman High School
In September 2022, The École partnered with Léman Manhattan to open a French-American High School track based at Léman’s FiDi campus. The program is an extension of The École’s bilingual curriculum, with high standard electives taught in French by The École Middle School teachers in 9th and 10th Grade. In 11th Grade the program transitions to a bilingual IB diploma program. The IB diploma is globally recognized as one of the strongest college preparatory programs and is an impressive qualification for college applicants.

Léman High School with The École–a French-American, bilingual IB curriculum–is part of a global effort to address the growing demand for language proficiency across university candidates and the labor force. The partnership, which is one of a kind in New York City, is possible thanks to the commitment of the two schools to consistently create and design new, rigorous academic programs for their students. The two schools share the same values, and every year, Middle School graduates from The École pursue their learning journey at Léman.
