St. Raymond Academy, part of the St. Raymond Parish educational outreach, is a Catholic high school for girls located in the Parkchester section of the Bronx with approximately 345 students in grades 9-12. These girls, representing a variety of New York City neighborhoods and a mosaic of cultures, are encouraged to reach their God-given potential in a safe, supportive and diverse environment.
As a school with a strong Christian tradition and a deep respect for traditional American values, the students are encouraged to appreciate the importance and value of learning in a technological world, develop and maintain a faith in their Creator and accept a leadership role by participation in the school's many activities and teams. It is the mission of the Academy to accompany their students on the journey to becoming successful and accountable women in a dynamic society. In order to better achieve these goals, the school was recognized with a NYS Board of Regents Charter (1965), and Middle States Accreditation received in 2003 and soon to be reaccredited.
The program of studies is primarily college oriented with art, humanities and science electives included in upper years. In addition to preparing students for a New York State Regents Diploma with 4-year programs in English, social studies, mathematics, Spanish and science, the school also offers Advanced Placement courses in English Literature and Composition, United States History and Government as well as Spanish Literature and Language. Instruction and learning are enhanced by science labs, library and computer access.
Acknowledging that after-school life is an essential outlet, developer of skills and a means of encouraging social interaction and leadership, the school activities include the Cheerleading, Art Club, Robotics with the Boys' HS, National Honor Society, Student Council, opportunities for participation in STEM Programs, Yearbook and the Marching Band which includes Color Guard, Marching Bells, Fifes, Drums, Twirlers and Pom Poms. CHSAA team sports include volleyball, basketball and softball.
Special Activities/events include an annual Fashion Show, College and Career Day, and Gala with alumnae, a Zumbathon that is designed to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Research, International Assembly & International Night, Band Revue, Spirit Day, Culture Day along with outreach events such as Food Drive (POTS), Elementary School Mentoring and a Leadership Group.
St. Raymond Academy for Girls is a small school where you will not get lost, where your successes will be rewarded and your individualized needs addressed. Students in Grade 9 are provided with enrichment courses in Math and ELA; we work with the local CSE to have students' learning needs evaluated with follow-up. Students with siblings in St. Raymond Elementary School and/or St. Raymond HS for Boys and/or at the Academy will receive a sibling discount (tuition) and there is a parish sponsored financial aid program, the Catholic Scholars' Award, for students whose parents meet financial criteria and for those who are registered parishioners.
