The property

Located in New York’s vibrant Flatiron District, The École is an intimate and independent French-American school that cultivates an internationally-minded community of students.

At The École, the goal of education is to develop well-informed, well-rounded, responsible and compassionate students who can create and connect to a world filled with possibilities. This belief is at the heart of The École’s uniquely-designed bilingual program, in which students learn to not just speak, read, and write in two languages, but also to think, feel, and act in ways that are informed by two cultures. To always see, explore, and understand the world around them from two perspectives is the gift of the deeply bi-literate student.

Artfully blending the curriculum requirements and pedagogical approaches of the French and American systems, The École’s faculty creates rich academic environments for a diverse, international student body. From Maternelle through Middle School, students at The École are guided through the core language arts, social studies, math, and sciences content, as well as character and cultural enrichment, in both French and English. In their intimate classroom settings, The École’s teachers aspire to provide bilingual learning opportunities that engage, challenge, and inspire.

The École Now Serves Students from Pre-Nursery through High School!
Since the opening of its Pre-Nursery program in September 2021, The École welcomes two-year-olds to its unique French-American bilingual program. The Pre-Nursery class constitutes the first year of The École’s pre-school Maternelle program. The École’s learning experience, which combines the scholastic depth of the French system and the play-based approaches of US early childhood education, is carefully adapted to the Pre-Nursery students to ensure a nurturing classroom environment that eases the transition to school life for the children and their parents, all the while encouraging the two-year-olds to develop their inquisitiveness and independence! In keeping with The École’s desire to remain human-sized, there is a cap of 12 students in the Pre-Nursery class. Two experienced and certified teachers—one native English speaker and one native French speaker—along with a dedicated daycare assistant create an atmosphere of discovery and delight for their Pre-Nursery students and prepare them for future academic success in The École’s unique bilingual program.

And just one year later, The École has joined forces with Léman Manhattan Preparatory School to create a new high school track!
Starting this September 2022, Middle School graduates from The École, from Léman Manhattan, and from other schools throughout New York City will attend this new French bilingual high school program at Léman. The program is an extension of The École’s French-American dual curriculum and transitions to a bilingual IB diploma program. The IB diploma is globally recognized as one of the strongest college preparatory programs and is an impressive qualification for college applicants.

Léman High School with The École–a French-American, bilingual IB curriculum–is part of a global effort to address the growing demand for language proficiency across university candidates and the labor force. The partnership, which is one of a kind in New York City, is possible thanks to the commitment of the two schools to consistently create and design new,high-quality programs for their students. The two schools share the same values, and every year, a significant number of The École’s Middle School graduates pursue their learning journey at Léman.

The École is currently accepting applications for 2023-2024. To find out more, sign up for one of their in-person Open Houses or write at bonjour@theEcole.org.
