Cabin Fever Reliever – Candle Making Workshops

Join us this winter for Candle Making Workshops! Learn about the history of lighting and make your own taper candles to take home. A great activity for the whole family! Workshops will be held indoors at the 3rd County Courthouse, with limited capacity to ensure safety. Workshops are available as group slots at scheduled times.

Celebrate MLK with HSA!

Join the HSA Family on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 4:30-5:30pm to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King. We’ll learn about the impact Dr. Martin Luther King had on the world and explore the ideas in his famous I Have a Dream speech.

We’ll create a dream list of our own and decorate it with markers and crayons. We’ll end the experience by learning a Dream Leap dance to celebrate and highlight our dreams. No experience necessary.

Family Art Project: Freedom Quilters of Gee Bend

In 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited the Gee’s Bend Community in rural Alabama, and the Freedom Quilting Bee was established. The bold patterns and bright colors of these now famous quilts, made using fabric scraps, would later go on to fund aspects of the community’s freedom. Create your own brilliant compositions out of bountiful squares of fabric scraps, honoring Dr. King’s birthday and the inspiring women quilters of Gee’s Bend.
