Visiting Brooklyn Museum with Kids

The Brooklyn Museum is a fun and educational place to visit, with something there for all ages, and is ideal if you are visiting with kids. It hosts a large collection of art, along with interactive exhibits, and is the second-largest museum in New York City making it an ideal place for little ones to explore.

One of the highlights of the museum is its extensive collection of African art. From traditional sculptures to contemporary works, the African art collection offers a unique opportunity for children to learn about the rich cultural heritage of the continent. The museum even has a special exhibition called “Africa Fashion” that showcases the vibrant and diverse fashion styles of Africa. You can immerse yourself in the colorful and creative world of African fashion, gaining an appreciation for different cultures and traditions.

For 25 years Brooklyn Museum has hosted “First Saturdays“, a free monthly evening program taking place on the first Saturday of February–August and October, 5–11 pm. Registration is required and includes Museum general admission.

If you are visiting Brooklyn Museum with kids, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the museum offers a range of kid-friendly activities and programs. There are even pop-up markets and pop-up teen talks taking place regularly – see their events page for more info.

To make the most of your visit, take advantage of the museum’s audio guides and downloadable resources. These resources provide additional information and fun facts about the artworks, making the experience even more enriching for your family.

After a day of exploring art and culture, you can relax and refuel at the museum’s café, which offers a variety of kid-friendly snacks and meals. If the weather permits, you could have a picnic in the museum’s beautiful outdoor plaza, surrounded by sculptures and greenery.
