20 May The Best of NYC: Preschools
Are you looking for your perfect preschool in New York? We know that the search can be a daunting process so look no further, as we have rounded up some of the best preschools that NYC has to offer.
Discovery PitStop
Discovery PitStop is an early learning environment where children’s physical, emotional, and intellectual needs are a priority. We have two locations in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and offer Infant, Toddler and Preschool programs for children between 4 months and 4 years of age.
In our Infant PitStop (4 months-12 months old) we encourage exploration in its earliest form, encouraging little discoverers to engage in tummy time and other developmentally appropriate activities. Infants are immersed in stimuli as they explore their classroom environment that is filled with artwork, educational toys, and soothing music.
Our Toddler PitStop (1-2 years old) sets the groundwork for foundational reading and math skills by introducing toddlers to the concept of letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Toddlers will be encouraged to engage in pretend play and interact with their environment through sensory activities. Toddlers also begin to explore literature as they are presented with classic book titles during read aloud and one on one reading time.
The Preschool PitStop prepares children for Pre-K and beyond by fostering independence through daily student-led play-based activities. Guided explorations and thoughtful discussions help preschoolers to expand their vocabulary and experience social and emotional growth. Preschoolers participate in ongoing process art and STEAM experiences that are showcased for parents throughout the school year.
Enrichment opportunities include Bilingual Birdies Spanish curriculum and yoga, and children of all ages enjoy ample time to engage in outdoor and indoor gross motor play. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily with our catered meal plan.
Please visit us at DiscoveryPitStop.com to inquire about tours and availability. We’d love to have you join our community!

Brooklyn Friends Preschool Program
Guided by the Quaker belief that there is a Divine Light in everyone, Brooklyn Friends School cultivates an intellectually ambitious and diverse community that celebrates each individual’s gifts. We challenge our students to value and embrace difference as they develop critical thinking skills and apply their knowledge and intelligence both in and out of the classroom. In this rich learning environment, we inspire all members of our community to voice their convictions, to discover and pursue their passions, and to seek truth. Our graduates are compassionate, curious, and confident global citizens who let their lives speak in the spirit of leadership and service.
Our commitment to nurturing the gifts of each child as an individual ensures a warm, stimulating and emotionally responsive environment where children feel free to explore the world around them. The BFS Preschool program—which is open to students 2, 3, and 4—provides a rich child-centered curriculum that supports children’s learning styles and developmental readiness. As they meet increasingly complex challenges and practice social skills, our preschoolers become curious, motivated and competent learners.
The Preschool curriculum offers children activities and materials that stimulate the imagination, build independence, and present ample opportunities for exploring and discovering their world. Through a wide range of activity choices – from creating stories and solving puzzles, to measuring ingredients and investigating nature – children gain confidence in themselves as learners. They learn to adapt to group experiences and to respect the feelings of others.
We believe that children’s play is an expression of intelligence and growth, and that young children learn best through hands-on, concrete experiences. Play is the essential work of childhood and an important part of developing cognitive, social-emotional, and problem-solving skills. In Preschool, the curricular areas overlap and provide the foundation upon which the academic areas of literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies are established, preparing children for the more formal educational experiences as they grow older.

The International Preschools Manhattan
There’s a reason our students love coming to school: they feel part of a lively, diverse and supportive community. For over 50 years we’ve been helping the children of generations of American and international families in New York City build the confidence, self-esteem, and strong academic foundation that will sustain them for a lifetime as citizens of the world.
We believe in creating a warm, nurturing environment where children feel secure and can gain confidence in their own abilities. We believe that by sharing aspects of their home culture through music, dance, food, language and dress, children expand their knowledge and understanding of the world. We welcome children who speak little or no English at home and believe that English speaking children benefit as they observe and help their peers learn English.
We believe in learning through play. Play is the central activity in the life of a child, and through our structured, teacher led play-based activities, children learn naturally how to think, how to solve problems, and how to achieve goals. How to express their ideas and their emotions, how to cooperate, collaborate and respect each other, how to be a friend.
While having fun they are developing the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive foundations they need to succeed — not just in their next school, but throughout their lives.

The Mount Carmel Early Childhood Center
The Mount Carmel Early Childhood Center is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian preschool that has been welcoming children and their families in Williamsburg since 2017. We offer a progressive, play-based program inspired by the developmental-interaction approach of Bank Street College and the child-centered philosophy of Reggio Emilia. At Mount Carmel, our teachers cultivate the natural curiosities of children, developing a curriculum that reflects the interests of the children in their class. They facilitate learning in a center-based environment that supports all areas of child development.
Mount Carmel provides children with bright, spacious and well-equipped classrooms. Our preschool features two private, sunny outdoor spaces where children spend much of the day playing, exploring and discovering. Additionally, our large indoor gymnasium rounds out our spacious facility.
In addition to our school-year preschool program, we offer a 7 week summer day camp. There are limited spots still available for Summer 2022!
We have both full time and part time options for children 2-4 years old.
