23 Jun NYC Pools Open June 27 – Dive into Summer!
Ready, Set, Splash!
New York City is eagerly gearing up for summer fun: more than 50 outdoor pools across the five boroughs open their gates on Friday, June 27, 2025, welcoming families and swimmers of all ages for free daily dips – just in time to beat the heat.
Pool Hours & Daily Routine
Every outdoor pool runs from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a scheduled cleaning break from 3pm – 4pm. This gives kids the perfect schedule to swim, snack, and cool off – without missing a beat!
Safe, Smart & Stylish Tips
Swimwear is a must: Proper swimsuits only on deck and in water. Plain white tees or hats are allowed for sun protection – but colorful shirts aren’t.
Bring a sturdy lock: Required to secure your belongings – no luggage locks allowed.
Leave these at home: Glass bottles, food, electronics, newspapers – even floaties aren’t allowed to ensure safety and tidiness.
Sunscreen’s on the house: Free sunscreen available poolside – don’t forget to reapply!
Lifeguards, Lines & Cool-Off Zones
Lifeguards oversee every pool, enforcing swim sessions and safety rules – especially on busy days.
Some pools use bracelets or time limits to ensure more kids get a turn in the water.
Your Borough, Your Pool
From the historic Astoria Pool in Queens to the Floating Pool Lady in the Bronx, and community favorites like McCarren Park in Brooklyn, there’s a free, fun spot nearby for every child. See full list of pools here.
Beyond the Pool: More Summer Perks
“Cool Pools” initiative: Colorful decks, shady plants, and extra fun amenities at select locations.
Free swim programs: Lap swims, youth teams, senior sessions, and accessible offerings citywide.
Safety made high-tech: Drones will monitor waters and even drop flotation devices if needed – a new touch to keep swimmers safe.

- A cool escape from summer heat.
- Free water-safety and swim lessons.
- Safe gathering places under lifeguard supervision.
- A chance to teach kids about pool safety, hygiene, and respect for shared spaces.
