20 Aug New Balloon Museum Opens Permanent NYC Home at the Seaport
New York has a brand-new immersive art destination, and this one is here to stay. Balloon Museum has opened its first permanent U.S. flagship at the historic Tin Building in Lower Manhattan’s Seaport District.
The new space launches with DAYDREAM – Air Becomes Art, an interactive exhibition that turns air, light, sound and movement into larger-than-life works of art. Rather than simply looking at the installations, visitors are encouraged to step inside them, walk through them, touch them and become part of the experience.
It’s especially fun for families, with huge inflatable environments, glowing spaces and plenty of opportunities for kids to explore through movement and play. Balloon Museum describes the experience as suitable for all ages, making this a great new option for a family day out downtown.
DAYDREAM brings together 12 international artists, including Marina Abramović, Paola Pivi, Martin Creed and Philippe Parreno. Abramović has even created her first-ever inflatable sculpture for the exhibition, inspired by an imaginary planet she dreamed up as a child.
Since launching in Rome in 2021, Balloon Museum has welcomed more than seven million visitors across 23 cities worldwide. Its new NYC location marks a major milestone: DAYDREAM is the museum’s first permanent exhibition.
