
Groundhog Day at Staten Island Zoo
Join us for the annual Groundhog Day Ceremony at the Staten Island Zoo featuring Staten Island Chuck our world-famous groundhog! Will Chuck predict an early Spring or six more weeks of winter? There’s only one way to find out!
Chuck’s Big Moment: At 8:30 AM, Staten Island Chuck will make his yearly weather prediction. Shadow or no shadow… what will he see?
Special Guests: Staten Island elected officials, dignitaries, and Citizens representatives will join Zoo Executive Director Ken Mitchell for the announcement.
School Participation: Students from Susan E. Wagner High School will be on hand to celebrate Chuck’s role as an ambassador for weather science and they’ll track the local forecast through March 20th, the first day of spring, to see if his prediction is correct..
Presented bt Citizens: Support from Citizens helps make the event, the Zoo’s weather science outreach, and the care of Chuck possible. Representing Citizens will be Yajaira Hafley, Tri-State Metro Retail Market Executive.
