Camp Lee Mar

Camp Lee MarCamp Lee Mar is a special needs camp, nestled in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, that offers a traditional overnight summer camp experience. This allows our campers to enjoy all the fun and social experiences of a summer camp and gain valuable life skills. Our campers, ages 7-21, develop skills in the areas of independent living, social and communication skills, self-advocacy, and academics. Through a variety of recreational activities and classic camp culture, campers are supported and encouraged to meet their full potential. Not only do we strive to give campers these skills during their weeks at camp, we grow their confidence and knowledge to carry these invaluable skills into their school year. The Camp Lee Mar team works with parents, their child and respective IEP, to create the best programming for a successful summer! Our philosophy of combining traditional summer camp with academics, speech, daily living skills, etc. has remained a constant through the 70+ years we have been serving the lives of children with special needs.

Camp Lee Mar is a unique environment for our campers to showcase their talents through a variety of activities, or even take part in new activities that they have never been exposed to. The activities camp provides are a perfect opportunity for campers to engage in social and communication skills as an extension to our Academics and Speech Programs.

Our Speech and Academics Programs are a consistent part of our campers weekly schedule. Campers attend academics four sessions per week. Campers in elementary through early high school work on traditional schoolwork with an emphasis on literacy and math. The program for older campers also includes pre-vocational and work experiences. Families are encouraged to provide academic work from home or directly from their school. Unlike traditional therapy programs, Speech at camp happens all day long. Through attending sessions and speech specialists being counselors, this allows for generalization of skills to natural environments. Skills focused on throughout the summer mirror therapy targets during the school year. Your child’s IEP guides treatment planning at camp, while camp also serves as the perfect setting for socializing.

Camp Lee Mar campers have a varied range of abilities within the mild to moderate range. Our have a basic grasp of their daily living skills. We prioritize our campers safety and well-being, in order for learning and development to flourish naturally. Through the information received during the application process and collaboration between home, camp and school, campers are carefully placed in a group that meets their support needs and group dynamics. We consider age, independent living skills, and social and communication skills, when creating our camper cabins. During the summer, we want our campers to make lasting friendships and to be placed in an environment that allows them to grow. Camp Lee Mar campers are from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds. We have campers from all over the United States, as well as from around the world.
