25 Aug Buckley Country Day School: A Joyful Beginning, A Lasting Foundation
At Buckley Country Day School, the journey begins at age 2. Our Early Childhood program, serving children in Pre-Nursery through Kindergarten, pairs joyful, play-based exploration with the thoughtful academic foundation young learners need to grow with confidence. For more than a century, our mission, Opening The Eyes And Awakening The Mind, has guided an education that nurtures the whole child, fosters joy in learning, and ultimately prepares students for life. From their first days at Buckley, children are known, supported, and encouraged to wonder, create, and discover.
Learning Designed for Young Children
In small, nurturing classrooms, experienced teachers meet children where they are and help them take meaningful next steps. Purposeful play builds language, early literacy and math skills, problem-solving, fine and gross motor development, and the ability to collaborate with others. Whether children are investigating a question, building with classmates, listening to a story, or sharing an idea, learning feels active, engaging, and full of possibility.
More Ways to Discover
The Buckley experience extends well beyond the homeroom. Early Childhood students enjoy music, art, physical education, library, science, and exposure to both Spanish and Mandarin. Our 28-acre campus becomes part of the classroom, offering space for nature walks, movement, observation, and imaginative play. Signature performances and traditions give even our youngest students opportunities to build confidence, celebrate their effort, and feel proud of what they can do.
A Community Where Children Belong
Children thrive when school feels warm, welcoming, and connected. Buckley’s core values—Integrity, Kindness, Personal and Social Responsibility, and Mutual Respect—are woven into classroom life in age-appropriate ways. Teachers build close partnerships with families while helping students learn to express themselves, listen to others, take appropriate risks, and become caring members of a community.
The Beginning of a Buckley Journey
Whether children begin in Early Childhood or join Buckley in a later grade, they become part of a purposeful educational journey that challenges, supports, and inspires every learner. Throughout Lower and Upper School, students engage in rigorous academics, the arts, athletics, leadership, public speaking, and rich signature experiences. Grounded in the same mission and values, Buckley graduates leave as articulate, resilient, and thoughtful young people, prepared for demanding secondary schools and for lives of curiosity, purpose, and responsible engagement. This is life readiness at Buckley.
