Creative Movement for Kids
Creative Movement for Kids offers high-energy movement and dance classes. We spark our imaginations, challenge coordination and rhythm, and dance all our sillies out. This gender-neutral class builds confidence and expressivity in your child while providing a safe and encouraging environment to connect with other children. Dancing is incredibly beneficial to a child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development – and loads of fun! Creative Movement for Kids was founded Summer 2020 by Allysen Hooks. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School with over 15 years of experience teaching dance to all ages. She loves to share her passion for movement with children.
Our drop-in schedule includes indoor and outdoor classes for a range of ages:
12 – 24mo with caretaker
2 – 3 years old
3 – 5 years old
Outdoor classes take place in Cadman Plaza / Walt Whitman Park. Indoor classes take place in Downtown Brooklyn / Boerum Hill.
Pods, Private Sessions, and Birthday Dance Parties are also available with flexibility in location and age.

Long Island City School of Ballet
Long Island City School of Ballet provides classical ballet instruction in a warm, supportive environment. Our aim is to teach strong technique while instilling a life-long love of dance. We celebrate happy, healthy children and hope our students learn to incorporate the benefits of ballet training into all of their life goals, artistic, academic and beyond.
LICSB has been sharing the joys of ballet with their Western Queens community for the past twelve years. Our instructors are professional dancers who feel passionately about teaching children. All of our students experience the health benefits of stretching, moving to music, hard work, focus and attention to detail, achieving goals and the gratification of performing!
This past year has been challenging, but we are so encouraged by the dedication of our students and the progress they have made working remotely.
With our partner professional company, Long Island City Ballet, we are proud to have created performance opportunities throughout the past year and have very special projects planned for spring and summer!
Classes are currently available remotely for ages six years and up, and in person for ages ten and up.

Live & Interactive Virtual Dance Age 3-16

Age 3-6: Live interactive, small classes. Each month has a different theme and children journey through an exploration of a classic ballet and musical as children learn the songs, stories, and dances from these shows.
Ballet & Musical Theater: Children learn the fundamentals of classical technique. In Ballet, they’ll practice the posture, arm and feet positions, pliés, tendus, rond de jamb, grand battement, chassé, pas de chat and then learn the stories, dances and composers of the great classical ballets such as Firebird, La Bayadere, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Coppelia and more, and dance to the original orchestrated scores. In Musical Theater they study tap & soft shoe fundamentals alongside the songs stories and dances of the great Broadway musicals such as Annie, Wizard of Oz, White Christmas, American in Paris, Cats and more
Age 7-16 Impressions of Impressionism: Dancing Through Art & Time.
In addition to daily ballet, pointe, Fosse Jazz & choreography composition classes students will study great impressionist painters: Monet, Degas Van Gogh and more, great impressionist composers: Ravel and Debussy. They will learn the story of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and compare the screenplay with the ballet. In conjunction with this semester they will have a painting workshop where they create their own version of Monet’s Water Lilies and they’ll create an original dance work based on the music and visual art that they have studied.

Joffrey Ballet School
The Joffrey Ballet School offers year-round classes for dancers ages 2-18. Our classes are taught in New York City at the flagship studios founded by Robert Joffrey in 1953. In-Person, hybrid, and virtual options available for students across the world.
On-Going Registration for our Spring 2021 Semester (February-May) is now open!
The Children’s Ballet Program is designed for our youngest dancers ages 2 to 7. The program offers a curriculum developed to encourage creativity, musicality, and physicality within an age-appropriate framework. The dancers, while developing their movement vocabulary, will begin study of the basic foundations of Classical Ballet.
The Youth Ballet Program ages 8-18, was carefully designed to develop strong and fluid technique, utilizing a building block methodology. The dancers are trained carefully and safely employing the most up-to-the-minute best teaching practices and standards that are in agreement with leading voices in dance and sports medicine. The dancers train in Body Conditioning, Ballet Technique, Pointe, Ballet Variations and Men’s Technique.

Dance with Miss Rachel is now enrolling for small group, pod, and private classes in our Tribeca and Upper West Side studios, on the go, and online. Budding performers can benefit from personalized programs in Ballet, Tap, Musical Theatre, Piano, Voice, Birthday Parties, and more. All classes are led by professional instructors and follow careful safety protocols. Winter Session is now enrolling and runs through March 28 for ages 18 months and up.
