Your child may already have an artistic talent, or they may be looking to start classes for the first time. Whatever the case, let your little one express their creative side at one of these fantastic classes, which are some of the very best that NYC has to offer.

For Art’s Sake

For Art’s Sake was founded in 1994 by Debbe Heller, a book illustrator and public school art teacher. Art is created in a spacious, well lit studio located on the Upper West Side.

What distinguishes For Art’s Sake from other art programs is my love of drawing and the joy I bring to teaching your child how to draw. The misguided notion that some can draw but others do not possess this talent, will prove insignificant. Any child, any age, young or old, can find exceptional joy and success in a few fun lessons. We will begin the adventure with drawing and then continue with paint, pastels, watercolor and more. To add to our creative experience, we will study the work and lives of the great artists and try to understand their place in history.

Art classes are available for ages five and up, middle school students developing portfolios for art high school admissions, high school students developing portfolios for art college admissions, and adult classes.

After closing last March due to the Pandemic Shutdown, art classes continued on Zoom throughout the winter months. During the Spring and Summer, while continuing our Zoom classes, many other students opted for classes in parks and playgrounds around the City. I offered group classes, private classes, birthday parties and adult classes all socially distanced and wearing masks.

Enroll anytime for Zoom classes during the Winter months of 2021 or join us for the Spring and Summer 2021, in person, in the park, and as soon as possible, back in the studio.

Kids at Art

For over 20 years, Kids at Art has provided the perfect environment for nurturing, non-competitive art programs where children can learn and create freely. Our age-appropriate art classes for kids 2 + years old focus on the basics of visual arts and are a challenge to a child’s inventiveness, helping to develop his or her imagination. In our children’s art classes children will learn to use various mediums – paint, pencil, cray pas, watercolor, and more. We’ll also learn about collage, printmaking, sculpture, plaster, and papier mache. Our kids will develop their drawing skills and learn to draw and paint from still life or a photograph. In our Zoom classes, which have become just as popular, we will also create masterpieces with whatever medium children have to use at home.

We also host the most creative and fun birthday parties in town! In addition to the wide variety of art projects available, we offer karaoke and disco parties hosted by a fabulous DJ! Now both in person as well as on zoom.

Creatively Wild Art Studio, Dumbo

Serving the Brooklyn community & beyond a healthy dose of inspiring creativity since 2009! Set in a glorious large industrious space in beautiful scenic Dumbo with breathtaking views of Manhattan, Creatively Wild Art Studio was recently awarded “Best Art School” in Brooklyn (Best of Brooklyn 2021 Awards). After School Club: We also run our popular in-person After School Club Mondays-Fridays 4pm-6pm (with some exceptions)

Holiday Camps: These run in-person on most public holidays & school breaks 9am-4pm (see website for details)

Toddler Classes: For our budding artists we offer a choice of online activities & in-person one hour Art Adventures designed especially for 22 month-3.5 yrs

Private Classes: Offered for all ages & levels in every subject & media (online and in-person according to availability). Book a discounted pack, work on personal projects, create a portfolio of work, learn techniques & brush up on skills! Perfect for young artists hoping for a career in the visual arts.

Private Pods: Book a session or pack of sessions with your own small group of friends! Discounted Packs available!

Birthday Parties: Voted 5 Stars on Yelp! We have limited spots available for our customized Birthday parties or special events held in our studio through Spring (contact us for availability). But we can also come to yours, host in a park (weather permitting) or favorite place if you prefer, or host your Birthday or special event online!

Arts in Action VAP, Visual Fine Art Program

Arts in Action VAP, Visual Fine Art Program is a three time BLACKBOARD AWARD WINNER FOR EXCELLENCE IN FINE ART EDUCATION, 35 years and counting.

AIAVAP offers age appropriate fine art classes for children ages 4 to18 that demystify the process of seeing, and translating what students see in order to empower students to tell their visual stories effectively from observation and/or imagination in a variety of mediums in a supportive calm, and fun environment.

AIAVAP’s sequential fine art curriculum allows students to build skills and concepts, from week to week, month to month, and year to year the same way learning a math or languages are learned.

NOTE: All levels from beginner to advanced students are welcome, and will be given personalized attention.
We offer PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT, and PORTFOLIO PREP for students considering applying to specialized art high schools, and colleges.

All art teachers are working artists with BFA or MFA degrees, and are trained in AIAVAP’s pedagogy for consistency in all classes and levels. Students work on a composition for several weeks while teachers refine students skills sets and understanding of concepts taught. We place two teachers in every class with 6 or more students enrolled so students receive individualize attention. We only allow 14 students in a class to assure personal attention.

AIAVAP is offering LIVE ON LINE for Spring 2021 semester, but will also offer IN STUDIO WORKSHOPS during the spring break

Spark

Spark is an art, yoga and meditation program for children ages 5 and up found by Artist Sebastian Alappat. Since 2015, we have delivered an incredible experience to children throughout New York City by our group and private classes, after school programs, camps, museum field trips, birthday parties and so much more. We have been twice awarded “Best Art class” by NYC Awards in 2018 & 2019. Spark successfully combines various mediums, techniques, art history and fun to create a curriculum for children like no other.

As of March 2020, we pivoted to online classes to serve families during the pandemic. We now offer both weekly online classes, in-person small groups at our Upper West Side studio as well tailored made pods through an amazing staff of talented Teaching Artists.
