Overnight Sleepovers Are Back at the American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History’s beloved A Night at the Museum: The Overnight Experience is back—and it remains one of New York City’s most extraordinary family experiences. Inspired by the Night at the Museum movie, these sleepovers give kids the chance to explore the Museum’s iconic halls after dark and fall asleep beneath the famous blue whale or among towering dinosaurs.

The program is open to children aged 6–12, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Families check in at 6pm and spend the evening taking flashlight tours through the fossil halls, exploring the Akeley Hall of African Mammals, and discovering the Insectarium and other galleries after the crowds have gone. There are scavenger hunts, games, and even karaoke before everyone settles in for a bedtime story and a night surrounded by exhibits that have sparked the imagination of generations. Guests bring their own sleeping bags and pillows, and in the morning, a light breakfast is provided before the museum opens to the public.

This is a rare opportunity to experience the Museum in an entirely new way—one that truly brings the idea of the exhibits “coming to life” to mind. Accessibility is built into the program, and families receive a complimentary admission voucher valid for a future daytime visit.

All 2025 sleepover dates have now sold out, but the Museum has announced new 2026 dates that can be booked soon. The available nights are:

  • Saturday, January 10, 2026
  • Saturday, February 7, 2026
  • Friday, March 6, 2026
  • Friday, April 10, 2026
  • Friday, May 22, 2026
  • Friday, June 5, 2026

Tickets cost $225 per person, with a member presale opening on December 3 at 10:30am and general sale starting December 10 at 10:30am. Spaces are limited and typically sell out quickly, so early booking is strongly advised.
