Wampum Making Drop In Workshop
Commemorate Indigenous Peoples Day by co-creating a wampum belt with Matinecock wampum artist Tecumseh Ceasar! Wampum belts pre-contact were often created through community effort. This ‘One Bowl with One Spoon’ belt signifies our connection to the earth, awareness of shared resources, and the idea of not taking more than one needs.
Visitors will help thread wampum beads into a simple design on this belt, which will be used as an educational tool within local indigenous communities upon completion. Visitors will also learn about local native culture history and customs.
Suitable for all ages.
