Chickenshed NYC is a no-audition theatrical community that offers everything you want in a children and youth theatre program and more! Acting, Singing, Dancing, Puppetry, Storytelling and a touch of science thrown in for good measure.
We provide young people the space to collaboratively develop and communicate their stories and lived experiences through the medium of theatre.

My Little Adventure, (ages 3-5)
This program is designed to encourage very young children to explore the elements that make up a theatrical performance in a safe and nurturing environment.
Under the guidance of our talented team of theatre practitioners, children spend each session creating their own adventure through songs, movement, props, dramatic play and some basic ASL (American Sign Language).
All the music, along with the puppets the children meet, are often featured in our popular Adventures from The Shed shows that are part of our wider program offerings.
Chickenshed Players 1, (ages 5-7)
Through playful games and activities that fuel their imagination and creativity children have fun with singing, dancing, puppetry, storytelling, and basic American Sign Language in these dynamic workshops. Beyond performing arts skills, our workshops develop teamwork, confidence, and social skills for a well-rounded growth.
Twice a year children will perform a ‘Sharing of Our Work’ in front of their grown-ups, allowing them to prepare for a wider audience when they move up to the next level.
Chickenshed Players 2, 3 & 4 (ages 7-17+)
This is a no audition workshop and performance program where children and teens build connections with new friends through a world of theatrical games and exercises. Our theatre practitioners and youth interns work together to guide and inspire participants to share their ideas and creativity in a safe and nurturing environment.
We stage two productions a year: one scripted and one devised by the participants themselves.
Each production includes an element of science, exploring how theatre can be a megaphone for science and how science can inform the art we create. We achieve this with the help of guest scientists and artists who workshop with us during the pre-production process.
Chickenshed NYC is the program of the American Friends of Chicken Shed Inc., a US charitable 501 (c)(3) organization. Financial assistance and payment plans are available upon application.
