Buckley Country Day School is committed to elementary education, serving students in pre-nursery through eighth grade. As we embrace high academic and ethical standards for each student, we are guided by our mission of Opening the Eyes and Awakening the Mind. Our program balances the traditional and the innovative, emphasizing excellence in academics and a thorough exposure to the arts and physical education. We teach children to think creatively, read critically and reason logically, stressing the value of both individual learning and collaboration. Students leave Buckley Country Day School as well-rounded, articulate, resilient and morally responsible individuals. They are prepared to meet the challenges of a demanding secondary education and continue on the path of lifelong learning.
Early Childhood
Buckley’s Early Childhood curriculum is thoughtfully designed to nurture physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth through joyful, play-based learning. This approach sparks curiosity and builds the foundation children need to thrive as they move into Lower School. In small, supportive classrooms, teachers meet each child where they are, providing personalized attention that fosters confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Lower School
In Lower School, students enter a new stage of growth where literacy and leadership take center stage. Public speaking is built into daily learning as students lead discussions, present projects, and perform for their peers. Through our partnership with Columbia University Teachers College, faculty receive ongoing training in the most effective instructional practices, inspiring students to think critically, communicate with confidence, and take ownership of their learning.
Upper School
As students grow, they become active architects of their own education. With access to a wide range of electives, performing arts ensembles, and three-season interscholastic sports, Upper School students immerse themselves in a vibrant learning environment that blends academic challenge with rich extracurricular opportunities. Leadership is taught through experience, with a strong emphasis on ethics, collaboration, and self-confidence. Beginning in sixth grade, the high school placement process offers highly personalized, one-on-one guidance from a dedicated team of teachers, advisors, and the Head of School, preparing students to shine in interviews and thrive at top-tier high schools throughout the Northeast.
Alumni
When our alumni reflect on their Buckley experience, they often credit the school with sparking a curiosity and love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Buckley graduates emerge with a deep commitment to making the world a better place, equipped with the critical-thinking skills and community-focused mindset necessary for success in a complex world.
