14 Aug AFAM Brings Folk and Self-Taught Art Into the City This Summer
This summer, the American Folk Art Museum (AFAM) is taking its celebrated collection of folk and self-taught art beyond the gallery walls and into the streets of New York City.
While the Museum undergoes exciting renovations and prepares for its grand reopening, AFAM has created a citywide scavenger hunt designed to spotlight the unique artistry that defines its collection. The initiative invites participants to explore diverse connections to folk and self-taught art across the city, checking off discoveries along the way.
The scavenger hunt is not only a creative way to engage with art outside the Museum but also a celebration of the cultural richness woven throughout New York. Participants who complete the challenge are encouraged to bring their finished scavenger hunt back to the Museum starting September 26, when AFAM officially reopens to the public. Those who do will be rewarded with a special prize.
By transforming New York into a dynamic, open-air gallery, AFAM is offering residents and visitors alike a fresh way to connect with folk and self-taught art – and to look forward to the Museum’s return this fall.
