07 Oct Celebrate Halloween With the Kids at Queens Botanical Garden
Looking for a fun way to spend Halloween with the family in New York City? Queens Botanical Garden is getting into the spooky spirit with an afternoon packed with costumes, candy, crafts and entertainment.
Halloween at the Garden takes place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 12pm to 5pm, giving families plenty of time to enjoy the celebrations before heading out for any evening trick-or-treating plans.
Kids are encouraged to arrive in costume and explore the Garden’s trick-or-treat trail, where they can collect Halloween treats while discovering the grounds. There will also be hands-on Halloween crafts, opportunities to learn about some of the Garden’s more unusual and spooky-looking plants, plus live entertainment throughout the afternoon.
Stories, art and a little Halloween magic
One of this year’s special activities combines storytelling, nature and art.
Griot Darlene Deloris will take families on AnkhLave Anansi’s Wisdom of the World Tour, a guided experience connected to the Garden’s outdoor art exhibition. Visitors can discover artworks installed around the grounds while hearing stories inspired by the cultures and ideas behind them.
It adds an imaginative twist to the day and gives families something a little different from the usual Halloween candy hunt.
There’s plenty for parents, too
While the kids enjoy the Halloween activities, grown-ups can soak up the Garden’s autumn atmosphere and colourful fall foliage.
A seasonal bar will be serving harvest beers and ciders, and visitors can also browse a vendor fair featuring local businesses. Halloween-themed photo opportunities will be dotted around the event too, so make sure everyone’s costumes are camera-ready.
Families can also take some time simply to wander through Queens Botanical Garden and enjoy the changing leaves before winter arrives.
