Whether you’re already looking ahead to the next school break, planning family vacations, or simply trying to keep track of those all-important days off, here are the key dates NYC families need to know for the 2026–2027 public school year.

New York City Public School students return to the classroom on Thursday, September 10, 2026, with the final day of school scheduled for Monday, June 28, 2027.

September 2026

Thursday, September 10 – First day of school

Monday, September 21 – Yom Kippur; schools closed

Wednesday, September 23 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for middle schools and District 75 schools

Thursday, September 24 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12 and 6–12 schools

Wednesday, September 30 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K Centers

October 2026

Monday, October 12 – Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples’ Day; schools closed

November 2026

Tuesday, November 3 – Election Day; students will attend school remotely

Thursday, November 5 – Afternoon and evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K Centers. Students at these schools will be dismissed three hours early.

Wednesday, November 11 – Veterans Day; schools closed

Thursday, November 12 – Afternoon and evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for middle schools and District 75 schools. Students at these schools will be dismissed three hours early.

Thursday, November 19 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12 and 6–12 schools

Friday, November 20 – Afternoon Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12 and 6–12 schools. Students at these schools will be dismissed three hours early.

Thursday, November 26–Friday, November 27 – Thanksgiving Recess; schools closed

December 2026 & January 2027

Thursday, December 24–Friday, January 1 – Winter Recess; schools closed

Monday, January 18 – Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day; schools closed

Tuesday, January 26–Friday, January 29 – Regents Administration

February 2027

Monday, February 1 – Professional Development Day. Students attending high schools and schools serving only grades 6–12 do not attend. Other students attend school as usual.

Tuesday, February 2 – Spring Semester begins

Monday, February 15–Friday, February 19 – Midwinter Recess; schools closed

March 2027

Wednesday, March 3 – Afternoon and evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K Centers. Students at these schools will be dismissed three hours early.

Thursday, March 4 – Afternoon and evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for middle schools and District 75 schools. Students at these schools will be dismissed three hours early.

Tuesday, March 9 – Eid al-Fitr; schools closed

Thursday, March 18 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12 and 6–12 schools

Friday, March 19 – Afternoon Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12 and 6–12 schools. Students at these schools will be dismissed three hours early.

Friday, March 26 – Good Friday; schools closed

April 2027

Thursday, April 22–Friday, April 30 – Spring Recess; schools closed

May 2027

Wednesday, May 12 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12 and 6–12 schools

Thursday, May 13 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for middle schools and District 75 schools

Monday, May 17 – Eid al-Adha; schools closed

Wednesday, May 26 – Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K Centers

Monday, May 31 – Memorial Day; schools closed

June 2027

Tuesday, June 8 – Clerical Day. No classes for students attending 3-K, Pre-K, elementary schools, middle schools, K–12 schools and standalone District 75 programs.

Thursday, June 10 – Anniversary Day/Chancellor’s Conference Day for staff development; students do not attend school

June 15–18 and June 21–25 – Regents Administration

Monday, June 28 – Last day of school for students

NYC School Breaks at a Glance

For families planning vacations, camps and activities, these are the main extended breaks to add to your calendar:

• Thanksgiving Recess: November 26–27, 2026
• Winter Recess: December 24, 2026–January 1, 2027
• Midwinter Recess: February 15–19, 2027
• Spring Recess: April 22–30, 2027
• Last Day of School: June 28, 2027

A Note for Parents

The NYC Public Schools calendar applies to NYCPS schools serving students from 3-K through Grade 12. Private, parochial and charter schools, NYC Early Education Centers and Family Childcare Programs may follow different calendars, so families should confirm dates directly with their child’s school.

Individual schools may also schedule Parent-Teacher Conferences differently from the dates listed on the citywide calendar.

And remember: when school buildings close because of severe weather or another emergency, NYC Public Schools may move instruction online rather than automatically giving students a day off.
