New Museum Reopening Weekend

New Museum Reopening Weekend

Opening Weekdend: Saturday, March 21 – Sunday, March 22 – 11am – 6pm.

One of New York City’s most exciting contemporary art spaces is reopening this spring—and it’s had a major glow-up.

From March 21, the New Museum returns with a significant expansion, adding 60,000 square feet of new space and transforming the visitor experience. To mark the reopening, the museum is launching a museum-wide exhibition, New Humans: Memories of the Future.

Taking over the entire building, this large-scale show brings together more than 150 creatives from across disciplines, including artists, scientists, writers, and filmmakers. The exhibition explores how ideas of humanity are shifting in response to rapid advances in technology, offering a mix of contemporary works alongside pieces from the past 100 years.

Visitors can expect immersive installations, digital works, and visually striking displays that encourage curiosity and conversation. Themes range from artificial intelligence and identity to how we imagine the future, making it especially engaging for older children and teens who enjoy creative and thought-provoking experiences.

The reopening also introduces a number of new long-term commissions placed throughout the building and surrounding spaces, giving families even more to explore beyond the main exhibition.

To celebrate, the New Museum is offering free admission across opening weekend (March 21–22), providing a great opportunity to experience the newly expanded space without the usual ticket cost.

Since opening in 1977, the New Museum has been known for championing new voices and bold ideas in contemporary art. As Manhattan’s only museum solely dedicated to contemporary work, it continues to push boundaries—and this latest expansion reinforces its place as a must-visit cultural destination.

If you’re planning a family outing in NYC this March, this reopening is well worth adding to your list—especially if you have curious, creative kids who love exploring big ideas.
