23 Jul CREA: After School
CREA offers interactive and immersive team-based adventures for kids that blend virtual and real-world elements. All of our games are STEAM-inspired, and feature themes about the environment made in collaboration with our students.
The Crea Adventure is a 60-minute continuous experience in an action-packed environment where kids navigate through technologically-infused games, conquering challenges and fostering creativity through movement. Players run, jump, climb, crawl and dodge through nine zones that combine technology with traditional play, ending with a relaxing meditation in our ChillZone.
Following CREA’s hour-long physical adventure, players gather in our Design Lab to design and build our next environmental rescue adventure. This fall we will focus on Sustainable Cities. Kids will learn the fundamentals of design thinking as it applies to gaming, and will be introduced to all the steps involved in the game development process; from research and planning to production and play testing. The time spent in the Design Lab offers students the opportunity to research and brainstorm ways to solve environmental problems; understand concept art principles such as mood boards, 2D modeling, and drawing while working with different mediums such as sculpture, collaging and creative building (dioramas, blocks and legos). They will learn the basics of animation/VFX art in game design using Procreate, Animated Drawings, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. The basics of coding will be explored using C#, Python and/or Scratch depending on each student’s age and level of understanding code.
The CREA philosophy is based on design thinking and experiential project-based learning. This approach provides powerful tools for innovation, that specifically encourage creative confidence, imaginative worldbuilding, brainstorming capability, empathy, observation and collaborative skills while deepening environmental awareness. We also believe that active play and movement not only stimulate and enhance creativity but are opportunities for design exploration as well. Students will practice physically active design in the CREA Adventure space making complex obstacle courses, the Floor is Lava challenges and by building structures and forts with our unique assortment of recycled, tech and non-tech props.
CREA’s commitment to fun/play and interactive, physical activity promotes physical fitness and well being, enhancing overall strength, cardiovascular health, coordination, balance, fine motor skills and creative movement. Our combination of team-based play builds physical and social-emotional confidence and self-esteem.
Our afterschool programs are taught by an experienced team of skilled animators, game designers and coders along with highly trained movement specialists, all of whom share a passion for teaching children.
