01 Jul WCS Run for the Wild at the New York Aquarium in Coney Island
Message from WCS Run for the Wild at the New York Aquarium in Coney Island:-
Summer hasn’t even begun, but we want to get on your Fall calendar. That’s when the second annual WCS Run for the Wild at the New York Aquarium in Coney Island will take off on Saturday, October 6, 2012.
So bring your sneakers – and families too! – and join us on Brooklyn’s storied boardwalk to help save walruses and other endangered wildlife.
As with each WCS Run for the Wild, this family-oriented event is open to runners and walkers alike. Registration includes some great features:
- Free all-day access to the New York Aquarium for all participants
- Free commemorative t-shirt for this event
- Staggered starts for runners and walkers/ families with strollers
- A host of great new prizes for fundraisers of all levels, including earbuds, a soft plush walrus and even kisses from the Aquarium’s resident sea lions!
Best of all, your efforts will directly benefit walruses and other threatened wildlife at the New York Aquarium and around the globe.
Did you know that walruses weigh in at close to 3,000 pounds? But even massive flippers can’t stop some things. Increased industrial activity in their habitats, depleted food reserves along the Arctic shores, and disappearing sea ice threaten to leave walruses with nowhere to turn.
We’re committed to ensuring a future for these mustached marine mammals, and we hope you’ll join us in Brooklyn on October 6 to help us get a little closer to that goal.
