Get Your Skates On, NYC-Style

When you think about ice skating in NYC, you will be forgiven for thinking about the fantastic Rockefeller Center as your first option. In truth, there are many excellent ice rinks around the City, and below we have highlighted a few of our favorites:-
Rockefeller Center Ice Skating
This is one of New York City’s most well known attractions. The world-famous ice rink at Rockefeller Center has been a quintessential NYC experience for generations set in the unique urban backdrop of Rockefeller Center’s sparkling lights and holiday tree. Create magical festive memories for your family on the ice!
Wollman Rink in Central Park
This skating rink is open till early April 2013 and is less than a 5 minute walk from the south entrance of W.59th Street & 6th Avenue.
Skating here creates a magical experience, skating under the stars with the sights of Manhattan all around.
Lasker Rink in Central Park
Another Central Park skating option for festive family skating.
Located mid-park between 106th and 108th Streets, and the rink is open until the end of March 2013.
Riverbank State Park Skating Rink
Located on the Hudson River at 142nd Street, Riverbank Ice Skating Rink is a covered ice skating rink that offers skating sessions from November through January.
City Ice Pavillion
Long Island City, Queens, is the location for this roof-top ice skating rink. Whether you have never skated before or are very proficient, this rink is suitable for all levels.
World Ice Arena – Flushing Meadows Corona Park
Again a great rink for skaters of all levels. This is the sister rink to City Ice Pavillion.
Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers
Still on track to re-open December 1, after some damage after Hurricane Sandy. There are regular drop in sessions here for families to enjoy skating.
The twin-rink facility, located on Pier 61 at Chelsea Piers, operates seven days a week, welcoming skaters of all ages and ability levels. Sky Rink boasts fantastic views of the Hudson River.
Citi Pond at Bryant Park
Citi Pond is the centerpiece of Bryant Park’s winter season. It is a free ice skating rink where you can rent skates, watch skating shows and join in with their activities. Citi Pond offer a cost effective skating experience in the centre of midtown. Open until March 3, 2013
Kate Wollman Rink in Prospect Park
Please note that due to construction, the Prospect Park Wollman Rink will not be open for ice skating in winter 2012-2013. Do keep this one in mind for winter 2013-2014!
