Exploring Drawing and Sculpture
Young artists will experiment and gain confidence with a wide range of drawing techniques, such as perspectival sketching, shading, and cartooning! Students will learn how to turn their sketches into three-dimensional works using a variety of sculpting materials.
Exploring Painting and Sculpture
This class will take a deep dive into painting techniques, drawing inspiration from painters from Picasso to Basquiat to Nina Chanel Abney! As young artists explore composition in their paintings, they will also be introduced to sculptural techniques.
Artists Through the Ages
Get inspired by master artists such as Frida Kahlo, Hilma af Klint, and Pablo Picasso! Every week, students will learn about a featured artist, take part in a demo, and create their own works based on the techniques they’ve learned.
Have Fun With Animation!
Students will learn the basic principles of stop motion animation using iPEVO cameras, tablets, and computers. Young animators will watch shorts by the likes of PEZ and Aardman Studios, then explore a variety of animation techniques.
Animation and Set Design
In this creative class, young animators will focus on setting the scene for their stories! As they consider designing tiny interiors, furniture, and props, they will learn concepts in world building and creating a connected environment.
Comics and Illustrated Stories
Young artists will learn about the beauty of sequential art, from manga to graphic novels! As they learn about artists such as Chris Ware and Kazu Kibuishi, the class will discuss drawing techniques, character design, creative paneling, and storyboarding.
Sculpting meets storytelling! With full access to CMA’s Clay Bar, young artists will learn how to create bendable and movable modeling clay figures, then take them to the Media Lab, a fully stocked animation studio where they can bring their characters to life! Sign Up
The Art of Sculpture
In this mixed media sculpture class, students will broaden their definition of sculpture as they study found object sculptures, land art, and monuments. In addition to art supplies in the Fine Arts Studio, students will have exclusive access to CMA’s Clay Bar.
Artists will get the chance to deepen their body of work in preparation for art schools and programs. With options ranging from drawing and painting to animation and photography, the instructor will tailor a course of study to this small group of students.
Photography and Mixed Media
In this unique class, everything from analog film techniques to photo collage will be explored as students create one-of-a-kind artworks with mixed materials. Artists will be exposed to a variety of media including drawing, painting, writing, and video.
